So it is supposed to be 100 degrees or more today. It’s already around 90 outside. I’m slow at work so I was able to leave at noon to be able to get home and start up our AC unit on the main floor - otherwise our house would be unbearable, since it didn’t really get cool overnight, so we woke up to 70 outside and even warmer inside.
As for the weekend, Saturday is supposed to be over 90 and Sunday just under 90, so it’s not going to get better until Monday. Greg and I are going to his company picnic tomorrow for a bit, and then we have another 1860s baseball game in the evening. I feel really bad for the players wearing the wool uniforms for the game will be very hot. Other than that we’ll just be trying to stay cool and relax. Sunday we are set for a Planet of the Apes marathon at a friend’s house. I’ll need some drinks to make it through two of those movies!

I don’t know if you have ever had a lot of experience with dopplegängers, but I am going through one right now that is really weird. Recently at my job a new contractor started working right next to me and he looks a lot like and acts a lot like a good friend from my college days, Pat. I have emailed Pat and told him about this, but since I first realized it, it has gotten to be even more strange to me.
So the contractor I work with looks a lot like Pat, but as we have spent more time working together I have also realized that he has a lot of the same mannerisms, laugh, and comedy tastes. When he brought up So I Married an Axe Murder and some other TV shows, I was thinking, Pat would have said the same thing. Then when he chuckled at something, I was thinking, Pat would sound just like that. So I have many times during the day where I am actually saying in my head, “that isn’t Pat, remember that isn’t Pat.”

We drove down to Bend last weekend and it was a great weekend and a great drive. Greg loved driving the new car over the mountain and it had no problem with the trip up and it was just a lot of fun as well. Plus we started to get to know some of the features as well. Plus we had better cell service over the mountain with AT&T than we did with T-Mobile, so that was cool as well. On the way home I was reading news stories about the Brett Favre saga to Greg as he drove. more »

So it has been a jammed pack two weeks, with getting busy at work and summer activities on the weekend. Lat weekend saw us trek across the river to Washington to Fort Vancouver for an 1860’s reenactment of a baseball game between the army of the fort and the towns people. A good friend of ours plays on the town team and invited us to watch. It was amazing the detail in the costumes and the game was also very fun. They played by 1860’s rules, so no gloves, no walks and a few other things were different. It was just a lot of fun to picnic in the sun and watch the game. The army won, which was a disappointment as we of course were rooting for the town team our friend plays on. The picture if of all the people in their costumes, with women and gentlemen as well. more »

So first off, I hope all of you had a good fourth of July. We had a glorious long weekend, with a lot of sleeping, being lazy, and eating going on. We did end up going to a friend’s house to watch fireworks as they live on the 12th floor of an apartment building that faces the Willamette River. The city shoots off the fireworks from barges on the river, so it was a perfect view. more »
